Lighting & Motorized Shades
It depends on how the shades are powered. Battery-powered motorized shades can continue to operate during a power outage, while hardwired shades need backup power or will remain in their last position until power is restored.
The control method also matters. A handheld remote may continue to work with battery-powered shades, but app control, scheduled scenes, and whole-home automation can be affected if the home network or control system is not supported by backup power.
For many finished homes, wire-free shades offer a practical level of independence during an outage because they operate from their own battery supply. They can still provide privacy, glare control, and the ability to manage daylight when utility power is unavailable.
In larger or fully integrated homes, shades can be planned alongside a generator, battery system, network backup, or resilient power strategy. This allows selected shading and control functions to remain available during an outage. The right plan depends on the home, the shading system, and which functions are most important to the homeowner.
When power returns, properly configured Lutron shades retain their programming, including their groups, presets, and shade limits. They do not need to be set up again after a typical power interruption.
Boca Tech and Automation reviews power, network, lighting, shading, and control systems as part of one coordinated home-technology plan. This helps clients make practical decisions about comfort, privacy, and reliability before a power event occurs.
